A few months ago, while catching up with a friend and enjoying a bite out locally, I met a really nice couple with their two gorgeous little children. They asked me a bit about MOOR and they were very kind with their comments. It was one of those lovely friendly encounters when you chat to the people at the next table to you in the pub and it reinforces all of the things great about living or working in The Heatons. It was like being given a little present.
A gift, in its widest sense, can come in all forms – a compliment or a smile can really brighten someone’s day. Making an effort to be more patient, tolerant or understanding, whilst it might even go unnoticed by those around you, can still be rewarding. Time itself can be a gift, whether you agree with friends to share a night out as your seasonal present to each other or you actively give your time to one of many local causes who will always appreciate an extra pair of hands.
Of course though, if you are after suggestions for actual physical presents to give this festive season, then I can recommend nothing more than treating yourself to the time to have a potter around our local shops. It may not always be as quick or convenient as shopping online, but it’s a lot more pleasurable: not only will you feel good knowing that you are supporting local businesses, but chances are you’ll bump into friends and enjoy chatting to the traders while you browse too. Of course, this being MOOR, we’ve got a few ideas to get you started!
Finally, if you are the couple that I met in the pub at the beginning of summer (your children have lovely names and your daughter is the ‘cheeky one’), then please know that with your generous words about the magazine, you made my day.
Happy Christmas and best wishes for 2024 from everyone at MOOR!
