For our fashion shoot in this issue (see page 9) we were lucky enough to work with model Emily Haynes. Emily first did a shoot with us all the way back in April 2013, and then again in December that year. It was lovely to re-connect with her after so long: she’s incredibly professional as well as a lot of fun, and as you can see we got some great pictures.
It got me thinking about all of the people I’ve met over the years through MOOR. Of course colleagues have become friends, but so too have clients. I’ve worked with some for over a decade and we’ve shared stories of our children growing up, discussed holiday destinations and I’ve tried to be supportive as their businesses have developed, sadly struggled through Covid or expanded into exciting new ventures or locations!
Different businesses use the magazine in different ways. Some retailers and traders have been with us since the magazine started over 13 years ago and have featured in every issue. Others dip in and out as they see fit, whilst others have used MOOR just to help launch their business in its early days. However businesses want to use the magazine and whatever people’s preferred way of working, be it face to face over coffee and a chat or via a quick email, our end goal is always to help them thrive and be supported by the good folk of The Heatons. Finding out about so many small businesses and what drives the individuals behind each one is a fascinating part of what we’re lucky enough to do.
Certainly Covid changed things. We all learnt to manage things more remotely, but the relationships with the people I’ve worked with have been one of the real gifts to me of working on a local magazine. Getting to know people in our community, the amazing contributors we’ve had the pleasure to feature, our advertisers and readers is an immensely rewarding part of the work for everyone at MOOR – so thank you for being involved!
