Issue 78 – Out Now!

0

This time of year always seems a bit magical and this Dec/Jan issue of MOOR is always one of our favourites. On the one hand we’re busy with fun things like a festive fashion shoot, checking Christmas recipes and pulling together a list of locally sourced gift ideas for you. Whilst on the other we’re getting a little more serious for January – gathering advice about subjects like finances, home improvements and health. It all makes for a magazine that’s a surprisingly mixed bag of festive fun combined with interesting and useful advice!

Despite the worries that small businesses like ours are currently experiencing, the MOOR team is determined that this festive period should be no different from any other, and we’re starting to feel a little of that seasonal magic. Our particular concerns are practical, surrounding the rocketing costs of paper, print and distribution, but also emotional, being very well aware of just how tricky things currently are for so many of our local businesses. Whilst in each issue we welcome new advertisers, there are also very, very many that we’ve built strong relationships with over 12 years, and so naturally we share their concerns for the uncertain times ahead.

So, forgive me for repeating MOOR’s shop local mantra, but that’s why we are here! The magazine set out to support local and neighbouring businesses, and in doing so help The Heatons to thrive. So, pop the kettle on and take ten minutes out of your day to look through this issue of MOOR – we’ve got festive wine recommendations, an update from Priestnall School, a look back at the big freeze of 1963 and a gorgeous kitchen make over. And of course, you’ll find details of some useful services along the way – everything from a chimney sweep to Tai Chi classes.

In this festive issue I do also have to ask, that if you are buying gifts (be they for Christmas, a birthday, or a new baby), try to buy at least some of them locally – your purchase really will make a difference to the survival of our local traders. MOOR will always be committed to sharing the shop local message, but it really is all of us collectively that make a difference by supporting those businesses and keeping that Heatons magic strong – not just at Christmas but throughout the year.

Very best wishes for a healthy and happy Christmas and 2023 from everyone at MOOR.
