Issue 74 Out Now!

Not for the first time, whilst putting together an issue of MOOR, did the team feel especially proud to be Heatonians.

In this issue I got the chance to meet and interview Steve Oliver, co-founder of MusicMagpie. You might not be aware that this truly entrepreneurial individual was born and raised in The Heatons. Meanwhile Sharon Byrne caught up with Figen Murray OBE – an extraordinary woman who through the shockingly tragic circumstances of her son being killed in the Manchester Arena bomb, set about getting the laws on venue safety changed for the good of everyone.

On a lighter note, our history feature regales us with tales of the quality showmanship offered by the amateur dramatics societies of The Heatons from bygone times. It would seem that we had quite a reputation for putting on a great show back then!

I also hope you enjoy reading about some of the traders and retailers that support our local economy too. Whether providing helpful advice, or telling you about the services they offer, these businesses really are a key part of what keeps our area thriving and as always we are grateful and proud that they are working with MOOR.

Whether you are a Heatons resident or visitor, whether a trader, retailer or shopper, or most likely a mix of the above, you must agree that there is something special about this place. Ultimately all of us who live or work here make our own contribution to this Heatons community and in turn I think each of us picks up a little bit of its magic.
