Issue 66 – Out Now!

0

Welcome,

I usually really enjoy writing the welcome for this December/January issue of MOOR, but this is possibly the hardest one I’ve had to do in the ten years I’ve been editor. As I sit here, the country has just gone into another full lockdown with the result that many local businesses are fighting for survival in what would normally be the busiest time of their year. When you factor in the uncertainty that many of us feel about our jobs, and worries about our families and health, (let alone what sort of Christmas we’re going to have!), and it’s hard for me to try and encourage you to start Christmas shopping!

However, over the last nine months I have witnessed an extraordinary community spirit and an amazing level of support for one another and our local businesses. I can’t tell you how many people have told us at MOOR that there was “No better place to lockdown in than The Heatons” due to its strong network of neighbour support and resilient community spirit. Of course, we all long to ‘get back to normal’ (sadly for some of us that won’t be possible), but it looks as though this situation is going to be with us for a while. That’s why we must hold on to what we can do to support each other as a community, keep doing those small acts of kindness that can make such a huge difference and, dare I say it, support your local businesses now more than ever. Shop local (even if it’s online), eat local (when you can again) and use local traders. It’s never mattered more than now.

Best wishes from everyone at MOOR for a happy Christmas and kind 2021
