The importance of the learning environment

Reddish Vale High School tells us why they believe so much in their new build development

A large amount of a child’s time is spent sitting in a school classroom. This place is where they will learn the various skills necessary for them to achieve success in society. The classroom is where they will gain an understanding of their place in the world and the gifts that they have to offer. Teachers are constantly developing their practice to create intellectually active environments, but do many parents realise how important the physical environment is to their child’s development? Space, temperature and stimulating displays all contribute to the creation of a positive learning environment and so maximising effective learning opportunities. But sadly, with schools receiving reduced funding every year, less importance might be attached to learning environments.

At Reddish Vale High School we understand the importance of the physical and intellectual learning environment for our pupils, and as such have been successful in a new-build development. The new building will include a large dining space, three art rooms and a state of the art SEND facility. All pupils will be able to access the engaging environments, which will give more of them the opportunity to develop important skills to help them achieve their goals in the future.

If schools really do play a significant role in teaching the next generation how to be successful members of society, then every opportunity should be taken to make sure that the learning environment is one that helps students thrive.
