Massarella’s – What’s not to like

bmill_1381We Marriotts are one of those families that likes a good café, and will often be found, of a weekend, snuggled into one of our ‘locals’ discussing the merits of the cakes and cookies we’re tucking into. So, when I heard that the ground floor café in Broadstone Mill Shopping Outlet – Massarella’s – had undergone a bit of a make-over, I felt compelled to check it out – for the sake of the family good name! My MOOR colleague Sharon and I are regulars to Broadstone Mill: every couple of months, (with the help of Lizzie Jordan, their ladieswear manager) we select the clothes for the MOOR fashion shoot. On those occasions we rarely have time for ‘refreshments’ but this time it was a lovely opportunity for Sharon, and my eldest daughter Sarah, to join me  for a spot of lunch.

bmill_1375The café itself has indeed had a great make over, and now boasts a fresh and contemporary décor. We saved ourselves a corner sofa and ordered at the counter from the good selection of savoury goodies. I opted for a bacon, cheddar, tomato and pickle toasty and Sharon went for the goat’s cheese panini with red onion marmalade. Both were really tasty, but if a hot sandwich isn’t your thing then on offer is also a quiche of the day, lasagne, two soups and daily seasonal specials. Sarah went for the always popular children’s snack bag which came with a sandwich, juice, raisins, crisps and biscuits* for a very reasonable £3.95.

bmill_1366In my book, there’s always room for cake and Massarella’s didn’t disappoint: scones, muffins, gateaux, millionaire shortbread, cookies, Tiffin…. need I go on? We had to sample quite a few just to be sure that they were as good as they looked. You’ll be happy to know that they were!

So if you’re looking for a light lunch venue, or somewhere new for coffee and cake, then Massarella’s is worth a visit. Of course there’s the benefit of being able to do a little bit of retail therapy at the same time with Broadstone Mill Shopping Outlet and Brand Interiors under the same roof. Shopping and good cake – what’s not to like.

Mazzarella’s is open seven days a week – 9.30am – 5pm Monday to Saturday and 11am – 4.40pm on Sundays.
