This is the sixth year that I’ve written the intro to our December/January issue of MOOR, and I make no apologies for the fact that it might seem very similar (okay downright repetitive) to those from previous years….. because at this time of year, it really is important to hammer home a ‘shop local’ message wherever possible. Good (or bad) sales around the festive period really make a huge difference to the overall health of a lot of our local retailers and businesses – mostly small, family-owned, and independent. Many of them depend on good Christmas figures to bolster up the leaner months. It’s easy to shop ‘on line’ and tick people off on the Christmas list from the comfort of your armchair – I have a whole Christmas spreadsheet thing going on and in a few quick hours on the internet I could sort the lot. But if you enjoy living in an area bursting with independent retailers and want to keep empty shop units to a minimum in The Heatons, then please, please, as always, take the time to shop local wherever possible. You’ll meet some lovely retailers, feel good about your shopping (and present giving) and love The Heatons even more. We’ve gathered a few ideas together in our seasonal gift guide to start you off, but a little bit of browsing our local high streets may surprise and inspire you, and yes, tick names off on your own Christmas lists.
Very best wishes from all at the MOOR team for a healthy and happy Christmas and New Year.
